Fortnite’s New Reload Mode Attracted Over A Million Concurrent Players Over The Weekend

Reboots on the ground.

Fortnite’s recently-introduced Reload mode has proven a hit, with players flocking to it as the gates opened over the weekend and concurrent player numbers suring every other mode in the game.

The mode, which mixes up the regular battle royale format with some new ideas, classic map locations and extra twists, saw a peak of 1.6 million concurrent players within the first days of its launch, hitting the million mark in just the first 30 minutes and doubling the player count of the standard battle royale mode. It’s safe to say it’s hit the ground running.

Reload, if you’re yet to check it out, plays something like Call of Duty Warzone’s Resurgence mode, where 40 players duke it out in squads and respawns, or “reboots,” are available (for most of the match) as long as one teammate is still living. The mode takes place on a more compact version of the OG Fortnite map, which includes iconic locations like Tilted Towers and Retail Row, and because of its small size features no vehicles.

Here’s how it works in more detail:

HOW TO PLAY FORTNITE RELOAD

In this Fill or No Fill Squads experience, it can pay to go for aggressive plays when there’s an automatic reboot just around the corner. If the rest of the team’s down, a lone squaddie needs to keep their head on a swivel, as staying in the game depends on their survival! Here’s how it works:

  • When eliminated, a player’s individual reboot timer starts. The player reboots at the end of the timer!
  • Reboot timers begin at 30 seconds and scale up to 40 seconds later in the match.
  • Remaining teammates can reduce reboot timers by 2 seconds by downing an opponent, 4 seconds by eliminating one, and 10 seconds by wiping an opposing squad.
  • When downed, players can opt to start their reboot timer right away instead of waiting for a revive.
  • Towards the end of the match, reboots will stop, meaning lost teammates will no longer return.
